Debora Brune (b. 1996) lives and works between Berlin and London. She studied Photographic Studies at the University of Applied Sciences and Arts in Dortmund, where she received her BA and MA in Photography.
Her practice originated in fashion and applied photography, shaping a strong awareness of how bodies are staged, perceived, and evaluated through images.
In recent years, her work has shifted toward a more conceptual and research-driven approach. She engages with questions of visibility, identity, and photographic representation, examining how bodies are read, categorized, and normalized within contemporary image culture.
Working primarily with photography and lens-based media, Brune develops projects that combine formal precision with critical reflection. Her work has been published in ZEIT Magazin, Vogue Germany, AUTRE, and Lampoon, among others. In 2025, she was shortlisted for Vogue's "Women by Women" initiative.
Alongside her artistic practice, she has worked as a guest lecturer in photography in Berlin and has contributed to public discussions on body and image politics. In 2026, she was shortlisted for the C/O Berlin Talent Award as well as selected as a finalist for the Dior Photography and Visual Arts Award at Rencontres d'Arles, where her work is presented in a group exhibition at LUMA Arles. Her ongoing project UNCOOL marks a key development in her practice, bringing together her visual language and long-standing interest in the politics of representation.
